I keep asking myself, why won’t it get warmer in North Carolina?

HeroesCon 2009 – Redux

HeroesCon Banner

One of my personal highlights for 2009 was attending HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC. I spent three days in the the Charlotte convention center, attending panels, getting sketches, and just talking to some of my favorite comics creators. I met some of the titans of industry such as Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker, got sketches from artists like Georges Jeanty and North Carolina’s own Kelly Yates, and long conversations with brilliant creators like Ivan Brandon who put out amazing work in 2009. It was an absolute blast.

Recently, as I upgraded to Aperture 3, I managed to delete nearly all of my photos from Flickr, including my sets from HeroesCon 2009. Using this mishap as an excuse to do a little photo processing, I went back through all the photos I took that weekend and reprocessed them before uploading them back to Flickr.

Day One:

All-Star Panel

All-Star Panel

For the first day of the convention, I really didn’t know what to expect. I sort of roamed around aimlessly and then stumbled into a panel. Luckily for me, the panel I stumbled into featured Matt Fraction (not pictured), Ivan Brandon, Brian Michael Bendis, and Ed Brubaker.

Day Two:

A Wasp and a Witch

Day two at the convention was jam packed with creator conversations, panels, and a whole lot of fun. One of the most popular convention goes at HeroesCon 2009 was the Scarlet Witch. Here is a photo of her posing with The Wasp. Since photos of the Scarlet Witch were some of the most highly viewed in my HeroesCon collection, I created a special Flickr set for them.

Day Three:

Chatting it Up

Chatting it Up

Day three at HeroesCon felt a little sad. Not because I didn’t have a great time, but because it was all coming to an end. Still, I managed to stick around for one last panel featuring Matt Fraction and also talked with Brian Michael Bendis and Ivan Brandon for awhile.

Artwork

I got three piece of artwork while at the convention: “Doctor Who” by Kelly Yates, “Baroness” by SL Gallant, and “Dark Willow” by Georges Jeanty. I love all three pieces and all three creators were thoughtful and appreciative when I interacted with them.

Last Bit of Sun, Last Bit of Snow

Adorama currently has a contest for photos taken and edited only on the iPhone (http://contest.adorama.com). I keep forgetting to make an entry, so I finally decided to shoot something and submit it. This shot came from my backyard as the last hints of snow start to melt away. Not my favorite shot of all time, but I wanted to participate.

Scarlett Witch, Wasp and the Green Lanterns

As I’ve mentioned before, I managed to delete a number of my photos from Flickr as I was trying to move my iPhoto library  over to Aperture 3. As a result, I’m going back and reprocessing all my images from HeroesCon 2009 before I re-upload them. The most popular of my photos were those of the Scarlet Witch, so I uploaded them first and created a special set for them.

Raleigh Snow 2010, Take Two

February 13, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The biggest snow fall in Raleigh / Durham is supposed to come between 11 and 4, I’m hoping that there isn’t any accumulation on the pavement when I wake up in the morning.

And once again, in case you care, this is a 3 second exposure with no flash.

I won’t mind if this all the snow we get

Predictions for this latest snow storm are 1″-3″, but I would be fine if this is all the snow that we end up getting.
And in case you care, this photo was an 8 second exposure that had a fill flash fire 3 times during that span.

Truck Day, Baseball Season Approaching

February 12, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Even though it’s only February, it’s a milestone day (at least for Red Sox fans) in the baseball spring training scheduled: Truck Day. It’s the day when the Red Sox pile all their equipment from Fenway park into trucks to have it brought down to their spring training facilities in Ft. Myers. The shot above is Clay Buchholz when the Pawtucket Sox game to pitch against the Durham Bulls last year.

Where eles can you see the Storm Troopers taking a picture of Storm Shadow and Black Canary?
I think with this post I’ve figured out all the posting via email and Aperture stuff figured out.

Did you Really Just Ask That?

February 12, 2010 by · 2 Comments

So when trying to delete photos from iPhoto that now reside in my Aperture library, I managed to delete all of my photos of HeroesCon from last year from my Flickr gallery. I’m going to re-upload via Aperture 3 once I upgrade, but for now, here’s the panel with Bendis, Hickman, and Brubaker.
